I am legally credentialed and professionally trained to work with the full range of learners — from advanced students to those with IEPs, learning differences, dyslexia, and everything in between.
MY EXPERIENCE
I didn't become a specialist overnight. My 20 years in the classroom were spent in the trenches — teaching real kids with real challenges, across every elementary grade level.
2 years as a 6th grade general education teacher
1 year teaching 2nd and 3rd grade in a behavior support classroom
17 years as a resource teacher — the educator schools turn to when a child is struggling most
Those 17 years as a resource teacher are what set me apart. Resource teachers don't get the easy cases. We get the students that traditional instruction hasn't reached — kids with IEPs, processing differences, reading challenges, and learning gaps that have built up over years. I've taught all four core subjects across every elementary grade, but reading and literacy have always been my greatest passion and my deepest area of expertise.
I've seen what happens when a child finally gets it — when a struggling reader decodes a word independently for the first time, or when a student who hated math starts asking for more problems. That moment is why I do this work.
WHAT I SPECIALIZE IN
Not every tutor is equipped to handle every learner. Here's where my training and experience run deepest:
Structured literacy and phonics — I use research-based, systematic approaches to reading instruction that work especially well for students with dyslexia and other reading challenges.
Students with IEPs and learning differences — With a K–8 special education credential and 17 years of resource teaching, I understand how to adapt instruction to meet a wide range of learning needs without lowering expectations.
Struggling readers and writers — I specialize in going back to the foundation, finding exactly where the gap is, and building from there — patiently and systematically.
Homeschool families — I understand the unique needs of homeschooled students and can deliver structured, credentialed instruction that gives parents their day back while keeping their child moving forward.
MY APPROACH TO LEARNING
I believe every child can learn. Not every child learns the same way — or at the same pace — but every child has the capacity to grow when they have the right instruction and the right support.
In every session I teach, three things are always true:
I meet your child where they are. Not where a textbook says they should be. Not where their grade level assumes. Where they actually are — and we build from there.
I move at the pace your child needs. Mastery over speed, every time. We don't move on until your child genuinely understands.
I make your child feel capable. Confidence and competence grow together. A child who believes they can learn will learn.

A PERSONAL NOTE
Teaching has never just been a job for me. It's a calling I've shown up for every single day for 20 years — through difficult classrooms, complex learners, and the deeply rewarding moments when everything clicks for a child who had started to believe they just weren't smart enough.
