Texas Homeschool Resources
Empowering Your Family’s Educational Journey
Navigating the world of homeschooling in Texas is a rewarding adventure, but it is also a significant responsibility. As your academic partner, I’ve curated these essential resources to ensure your family remains informed, legal, and empowered to lead with confidence.
-
In Texas, your home is legally considered an unaccredited private school. To remain in compliance, you must ensure your instruction is bona fide (not a sham) and uses a visual curriculum (books, videos, or digital programs).
The "Basic Five" Subjects: Texas law requires you to teach Reading, Spelling, Grammar, Mathematics, and Good Citizenship. (Our program covers all of these!).
Texas Home School Coalition (THSC): The gold standard for legal advocacy and support in our state.
Texas Education Agency (TEA): Official state guidelines on homeschooling and re-entering public school.
-
The Texas Education Freedom Accounts (TEFA) are now live for the 2026-2027 school year.
Homeschool Funding: Families choosing to homeschool can receive up to $2,000 per year per student to cover approved expenses like tutoring, curriculum, and educational therapies.
Special Needs Priority: Students with a documented disability may qualify for higher funding amounts (up to $30,000) depending on demonstrated need.
How to Apply: Applications typically open in February for the following fall.
-
Homeschool Excursions of Texas: A Facebook-based group coordinating educational field trips and outings in Southern Texas.
DFW Homeschoolers #FieldTripFridays: A local support group providing field trips for families in North Texas.
4-H: Provides inexpensive, hands-on, and experiential learning across diverse topics, ranging from animal science to STEM.
